In 1942, big bands honored the women who worked hard on the home front to support the war effort, and the image of the strong, courageous Rosie the Riveter was born. At the same time, Westinghouse commissioned an artist to create a series of posters celebrating the women working in their factories. The most iconic of these has become known as "Rosie the Riveter," and it is this famous image that is brought to life by the "We Can Do It" Rosie the Riveter metal sign. The sign features Rosie rolling up her sleeves and flexing her muscles above the slogan "We Can Do It" that was featured on the original artwork.
